Banks
iBanking website
The DBS iBanking website for individual customers require a special device for 2FA login and confirmation.
It also provides an option for SMS OTP.
As I left my device at home, I opted for SMS OTP to carry out a transaction in the office.
I was able to login and to request a payment transaction.
It send a OTP to my mobile phone and asked me to use the device to convert the OTP. But my device is at home. So, I had to abandon the transaction.
Why offer the SMS OTP option when the device is still required to confirm the transaction?
I failed in a transaction previously due to this problem. I forgot about the limitation when I tried it again today. I wasted time in trying to send the payment without the device.
DBS also have a mobile phone app. However, I deleted this app because it was highly risky. It only required a finger print to access the bank account and carry out the transaction. I do not want to take the risk because a hacker could get around this finger print check.
Why does DBS make it so troublesome to use its iBanking website, with layers of troublesome security, and make it so easy to use the mobile app?
It is a crazy approach.
